Scotland 4 Israel 1: Scots dominance over Israel fires Pedro M Losa’s side top of Group B – PLZ Soccer
Scotland have fired themselves top of Group B in their bid to qualify for EURO 2025, after a dominant display on a difficult night at Hampden Park.
Political unrest from outside of the ground spilled onto the pitch before kick off, with one protestor chaining himself to the goal post.
A 30 minute delay followed, however when the action did get underway it didn’t seem to affect the home side as they dominated early proceedings.
It wasn’t however until the 17th minute that the pressure paid off with Claire Emslie tapping home at the back post from close range after a brilliant cross from Martha Thomas.
The Scots then doubled their lead on the 29th minute when Kirsty Hanson prodded the ball into the net after some pinball inside the Israeli box.
And Emslie fired in her second of the night and Scotland’s third on the 35th minute, with goal scorer Kirsty Hanson turning provider.
It was a slower start to the second half for Scotland but they were given an opportunity to add to their lead on the 63rd minute when they were awarded a penalty for a challenge from behind on Chelsea Cornet.
Martha Thomas smashed home the subsequent spot kick to give Scotland a 4-0 lead over the visitors.
Israel scored a late consolation goal on the 85th minute. Talia Sommer’s shot from the edge of the box flew past Lee Gibson in the Scotland goal.
Scotland now sit in a very commanding position at the top of Group B and will next face tonight’s opponents in the reverse fixture in Budapest on Tuesday.
