Schools and transport remain affected as more snow and ice hits Scotland

Transport across the country also continues to be affected with snow and ice warnings remaining in place for parts of Wednesday throughout Scotland.

Aberdeenshire and the Highlands and Islands appear to be the council areas being hit by the cold snap most, but it also extends into the central belt with Ayrshire also being affected.

In the Highlands, 16 schools and nurseries have already been announced as remaining closed on Wednesday while many in Aberdeenshire are having delayed openings in the hope that the weather clears up.

Transport issues are also continuing due to the ongoing weather issues with eight of CalMac routes suffering disruptions or severe disruption to its services.

Some roads in the north of the country have also had their snow gates shut and the Met Office are urging people to make sure they are prepared for any incidents that may happen on the roads.

It has issued advice to drivers to ensure they have essentials such as warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger in their car in case they get stranded anywhere.
