Sammi lands top Para title at the Scottish Sports Awards – Scottish Athletics

Sammi Kinghorn MBE has collected another top accolade as her brilliant 2024 draws towards a close.

The multiple Paralympic medallist was named Female Para Athlete of the Year at the Scottish Sports Awards in Glasgow on Wednesday night.

Sammi of course had her most successful season to date, topped off with five medals at the Paralympics.

The Scottish Sports Awards said: ‘She is a truly phenomenal athlete and inspirational person within the GB team and is dedicated to supporting young people who are interested in sport.’

Sammi was thus into the final short-list for the overall Scottish Sportsperson of the Year. Swimmer Duncan Scott took the title.

Many congratulations to Sammi, her family, coach Rodger Harkins and all who have supported her development in wheelchair racing over a number of years.

Ben Sandilands was in the final three for the Scottish Sports Moment of the Year for his T20 gold medal success in Para which also saw him break the Paralympic and World Records for his event. Glasgow Warriors won the award.

Josh Kerr had been in the initial short-list of eight moments for this gold medal-winning run at the World Indoors in Glasgow back in March.

scottishathletics were in the final short-list of three for the Scottish Governing Body of the Year. Judo Scotland were named as winners. Congratulations to our friends at Judo Scotland!

Triathlon star Beth Potter, who came through the ranks at VP-Glasgow as an endurance athlete, was named as Scottish Female Athlete of the Year.
