Ryan Gauld in contention for first Scotland call up at the age of 28
STEVE CLARKE is weighing up a shock Scotland call-up for Ryan Gauld.
The former Dundee United midfielder – now starring in the MLS with Vancouver Whitecaps – is being considered for the upcoming Nations League clashes with Poland and Portugal.
Gifted Gauld, 28, has never been capped at top team level – and he was passed over for a Euro 2024 spot.
But Clarke could be ready to give the playmaker a chance in next month’s double-header.
As yet no firm decision has been made ahead of next week’s squad announcement.
But SunSport understands Gauld is one of the players in contention with Clarke looking to freshen up his group.

The SFA are currently doing their background checks on which players are fit and available with Gauld being discussed.
The classy midfielder was tipped for the top after joining Sporting Lisbon from Dundee United in a £3million deal as an 18-year-old.
But Gauld has continually been overlooked by national team bosses.
Clarke could also hand a call-up to new Rangers midfielder Connor Barron for the back-to-back games next month.
The ex-Aberdeen star was close to a call-up for the Euros but narrowly missed out.
