Rangers vs. Celtic live score: Scottish Premiership result, updates, stats from Old Firm derby in January 2025 | Sporting News India

The first Old Firm derby match of 2025 takes place on Thursday as Celtic head to Ibrox to face Rangers and their under-fire manager Philippe Clement.

A 2-1 loss to St. Mirren and a 2-2 draw with Motherwell to end December left the Light Blues 14 points behind their fierce city rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

These two played out an enthralling 3-3 draw in the Scottish League Cup final in December before Celtic triumphed on penalties, but Clement will need more than another entertaining encounter ending in disappointment if he is to ease some of the pressure on his position.

Rangers vs. Celtic live updates, highlights, and commentary

1 hour 45 mins before kickoff: Talk has already turned towards the prospect of Celtic enjoying another invincible season. The Hoops have lost only one domestic match since December 2023, and their only defeat of 2024/25 in any competition came in that 7-1 thrashing by Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.

2 hours before kickoff: This will be the 444th Old Firm derby, and the first of 2025. Boy, how Rangers would like to level that all-time head-to-head.

Rangers vs. Celtic lineups, team news

Clement said there is “a small chance” that Leon Balogun could return depending on how the centre-back progresses in training.

However, club captain James Tavernier has been ruled out “for a few weeks” after sustaining an injury, and with both John Souttar and Neraysho Kasanwirjo also sidelined, Rangers’ options are looking thin.

Clement may decide to follow the same sort of blueprint he used in the cup final, which very nearly paid dividends.

Rangers predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Butland (GK) — Yilmaz, Sterling, Propper, Jefte — Diomande, Raskin — Cerny, Bajrami, Cortez — Igamane

Celtic will be without long-term absentee Odin Thiago Holm and James Forrest, but Alistair Johnston has recovered from a hip-flexor injury and came through the win over St. Johnstone unscathed.

Daizen Maeda will probably come back into the starting lineup after his heroics in the cup final.

Celtic predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Schmeichel (GK) — Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Valle — Engels, Bernardo, Hatate — Kuhn, Maeda, Furuhashi
