Rangers state of play on Hampden and Murrayfield as ‘major obstacles’ remain

RANGERS could have to PAY Queen’s Park to stay at Lesser Hampden beyond the start of September if the Ibrox construction delays drag on beyond August, it’s been claimed.

That’s if the Ibrox side opt to play their European and Scottish Premiership matches at Hampden rather than Murrayfield while their stadium is out of bounds due to ongoing construction delays.

The Spiders have an agreement in place with the Scottish football governing body to enter the stadium after Scotland’s Nations League fixture with Poland in September.

It’s one reason why decamping to Hampden is so problematic – even if this route – at first dismissed by club chiefs – now appears to be back on the table.

According to a report in The Scotsman, the park has ALREADY been re-seeded following two Pink concerts at the weekend.

That means that Rangers would have to fund and deliver a new surface to the stadium in time for the first home league game vs Motherwell on August 10 using ‘lay and play’ pitch technology.

However, the report claims that the Gers are against using two separate venues – ie Hampden and Murrayfield – two fulfil their commitments in Europe and domestically.

The Ges are believed to still be in talks with BOTH venues as they seek a solution to the problems.

Their first Premiership match is a MONTH yesterday, although they kick off the campaign away to Hearts with their first ‘home’ league match the following week against Motherwell.

Meanwhile, Ibrox talisman Todd Cantwell could be set for a megabucks move to Saudi Arabia — a day after his agent tried to punt him to Lecce.

Former Liverpool star turned deal-maker Jose Enrique was caught up in a bizarre series of events which reportedly saw him offer the Rangers star to the wrong person.

The mix-up appeared online when Enrique, instead of contacting Lecce coach Luca Gotti, sent a message to an Instagram fan page.

And Norway’s Marcus Pedersen was caught up in the confusion.

Enrique insisted both could be of interest to Gotti, who guided Lecce to Serie A safety last season – but Cantwell WILL be allowed to leave though.
