Rangers star earns last-minute Scotland call-up for Portugal clash
RANGERS star Connor Barron has been called-up to the Scotland squad ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Portugal.
The midfielder received his first senior call-up during last month’s Nations League double header but didn’t manage to make his debut.
Barron, 22, joins Steve Clarke‘s squad as a replacement for James Forrest.
On Friday, the Celtic winger was ruled out of both Saturday’s game in Croatia and the upcoming showdown with Portugal.
No replacement was called-up prior to the first game in Zagreb.
But just a day before Cristiano Ronaldo and co descend on Hampden, Barron has linked-up with the senior squad.
The midfielder, who has impressed in the early stages of his first season at Rangers, had been away with the under-21 squad.
Barron played the full 90 minutes as the Scots youngsters fell to a 2-0 defeat against Belgium on Friday.
Scot Gemmill’s U21s kids take on Kazakhstan in a do-or-die qualifier tomorrow night.
Reports emerged that Barron had picked up a knock and hadn’t travelled for that game.
However, now the situation has become clear and he is in fact joining up with the senior team instead.
Scotland will be looking to once again bring an end to their horror run of form tomorrow night.
Clarke’s men have lost all three of their Nations League matches so far.
A gut-wrenching 3-2 home defeat to Poland was followed by a similarly devastating 2-1 loss to Portugal last month.
And on Saturday just gone, it was a cruel 2-1 defeat in Croatia.
An own goal looked to have rescued a point for the Scots with the last kick of the game until VAR spotted a Che Adams offside.
Scotland are on a run of just one win in their last FIFTEEN matches.
