Rangers prodigy ‘returns to his old club’ after 12-year spell in England

RANGERS have welcomed one-time teen sensation John Fleck back into the fold at Auchenhowie.

It is claimed the 32-year-old midfielder has gone back at the Gers training centre this summer – some 12 years since he left.

As a 15-year-old he was part of Walter Smith‘s side that won the Scottish Cup against Queen of the South in 2008.

He won three Premiership titles in a row the following three seasons before heading to Coventry City and Blackpool on loan.

Now after starring for Sheffield United in the Premier League and last term at Blackburn, Fleck is on the lookout for a new club.

He’s headed home to Glasgow where he grew up and is being watched by Philippe Clement and his staff according to the Daily Record.

The midfielder has five Scotland caps and was once linked with a £20m move to Arsenal as he starred for the Blades.

However illness and injury have seen his first-team football opportunities drop in the past two years and Fleck has only managed five games in that time.

The 32-year-old played under ex-Gers defender Steven Pressley at Coventry and is the nephew of former Ibrox player Robert Fleck.

Midfield is an area Philippe Clement is known to be keen on strengthening.

Ryan Jack and John Lundstram both left at the end of last season while Nico Raskin is out for six weeks after being crocked against Ajax.

Gers made Mo Diomande’s loan deal permanent this summer and have been involved in protracted negotiations with Sevilla over a loan for Joan Jordan.

The Spaniard has three years left on his deal in La Liga but he is now believed to be digging his heels in and waiting for an offer to stay in Spain.

Kenny McLean is also another name that has been linked this close season.

Philippe Clement refused to be drawn on names or speculation after his side’s 4-4 draw with Union Berlin but said new faces would follow Wolfsburg winger Vaclav Cerny.

He said: “As long as there is no pen put on paper there is nothing in this world.

“It could be in five minutes it could be in five weeks – I don’t know, but there will be other signings.”
