Publishing Scotland celebrates 50th anniversary at the Edinburgh International Book Festival
Publishing Scotland has celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
The network, trade and development body for the book publishing sector in Scotland was established in 1974 by a small collection of innovative publishers who wanted a trade body that represented them.
The membership body and charity works hard to act as the voice for publishing, and aims to develop and promote the work of organisations and individuals in the industry through training, advocacy, marketing, lobbying and bespoke support.
The organisation runs its annual International Publishing Fellowship, Translation Fund and Frankfurt & London Book Fair stands, and is the majority shareholder in book distribution company BookSource, based outside Glasgow.
It also runs the Scottish book marketing website BooksfromScotland.com.
Supported by funding from the arts council Creative Scotland, Publishing Scotland has more than 100 members across Scotland and the UK—and many of them came together in Edinburgh this week to raise a glass and enjoy some cake in celebration of the work of the agency over the last 50 years.
