Plans for giant Hampden tifo at Scotland’s last game before Euro 2024 scrapped

SCOTLAND’S send-off tifo before Euro 2024 has been cancelled – due to a lack of funding.

Organisers had been hoping to put on a colourful display in the stands at Hampden before the kick-off against Finland tomorrow night.

The friendly is the last match before Steve Clarke and his men jet off to Germany for the footie extravaganza.

But members of the Scotland Tifo Group, which fundraises to create massive choreographed crowd messages, said they have “struggled” to gather enough money.

They received more than £2,000 in donations for the stunning ‘We’ll Be Coming’ display during the Euro qualifier against Norway at Hampden last November.

The jaw-dropping design stretched across three stands and included the colours of the German flag on either side of the message.

It was one of the largest ever tifos unveiled at the national stadium.

But the Scotland Tifo Group has only received £625 towards a target of £2,500 for their friendly against Finland.

Instead, funds will be kept aside for the Nations League matches in the autumn.

Organisers said: “Unfortunately there won’t be a send off tifo v Finland. There doesn’t appear to be the same appetite anymore, and we’ve struggled to raise funds for it this time.

“We’ll hold the money we’ve raised and hopefully put something together for the Nations League later in the year.”

Tartan Army foot soldiers believe many fans are saving money for the tournament but backed supporters to still create a party atmosphere.

Iain Emerson, editor of the Famous Tartan Army Magazine, said: “It’s a lot of organisation involved and a lot of funds to try and raise. It was probably always going to be tough to raise enough for a friendly.

“A lot of people are going over to Germany, so cash will be a bit tight. It makes sense to put it towards one in the future.

“I’m sure no matter what, the Tartan Army will give the team a great send-off.

“The Scotland slogan is ‘no Scotland, no party’. Even though there won’t be a tifo, there will be a party.”

Hamish Husband, spokesperson for the Association of Tartan Army Clubs, said: “Fans are saving their money for the tifo for the first game back at Hampden after Scotland’s successful Euros campaign.

“The whole point now is to get to Germany and do well. We’re focused on the Euros.”
