Scotland defeat Oman by seven wickets and 47 balls in hand to reach the top of the table in Group B with five points. Brandon McMullen and George Munsey’s carnage decimated the Asian side despite Pratik Athavale’sm fifty, leaving Oman with a hat-trick of loss in the T20 World Cup campaign.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Oman suffered a couple of blows, losing Naseem Khushi and Aqib Ilyas inside the 53-run powerplay. Pratik Athavale seemed steady with his approach despite Zeeshan Maqsood and Khalid Kail following suit before Ayaan Khan accompanied Pratik for a 43-run fifth wicket stand to stabilize the ship. Subsequently, Pratik and Mehran Khan departed in a span of fourteen balls with the score reading 132/6 in 18 overs. The tail along with Ayan managed to add 18 runs in the last two overs with Oman finishing the tally at 150/7.

Similar to the opposition, Scotland got to a steady start inside initially as George Munsey and Brendon McMullen played sensibly despite an early blow in the form of Michael Jones. Following a 50-run powerplay score, the pair orchestrated a 65-run stand before Mehran Khan silenced aggressive Munsey on 20-ball 41. Aqib Ilyas backed it up by removing skipper Richie Berrington before Matt Cross walked out to accompany an on-song McMullen. The Scotland scoreboard read 110/3 in ten overs and they seemed well ahead in the chase midway through the chase with McMullen batting at 19-ball 33*. Soon, 23 runs came off the next couple of overs before the Scottish pair unleashed three sixes against Ayaan Khan to reduce the equation to two runs needed off the last seven overs. It was just a matter of time before the pair sealed the deal and earned an NRR boost with a seven-wicket triumph.
