New outdoor assault course & ‘zombie gun range’ set for ‘best place in Scotland’

AN exciting new outdoor assault course and axe-throwing site has been given the green light.

The new Tough Mudder-style adventure park will be built near the “best place to live in Scotland” after the council approved the planning application.

Wild Cairns will have rope and tyre swings, high walls, slides and even a four-metre high cargo net among the planned obstacles.

And there’s plenty more in store to test challengers taking on the course.

The firm is hoping to have more than 30 obstacles spread out over the one-mile course at Whitekirk Hill near North Berwick, East Lothian.

The facility will also include an airsoft zombie gun range.

It is expected to create up to six jobs at the activity centre.

Work on the wooden obstacles is expected to start within a matter of days.

Wild Cairns was founded in April by Angus McLeod and Scott Smith who have competed in more than 150 obstacle race courses in the UK and abroad.

Scott told the East Lothian Courier: “We are delighted that our planning application has been approved by East Lothian Council and can’t wait to start building our assault course.

“These are exciting times for Wild Cairns.”

Arlene Wynn, general manager at Whitekirk Hill, added: “When we first met with Wild Cairns, we knew instantly that we wanted to welcome them to Whitekirk Hill.

“We are so excited that they have been given the green light and we cannot wait to see their business emerge and flourish in its new location.

“The enthusiasm of the Wild Cairns team will ensure that whatever they do will be a huge success and we are delighted to be part of their story.

“We can’t wait to tell our members and lodge guests all about them.”

The picturesque seaside town of North Berwick was named the best place to live in the UK for 2024.

The idyllic coastal location was ranked top of the list due to its stunning beaches surrounded by thriving independent shops and community spirit.

But locals have told of their frustration recently as they claim the area is now being overrun with tourists due to its surge in popularity.
