Napoli ‘plan stunning £42million double transfer deal’ for two Scotland stars

NAPOLI are planning a stunning double swoop for two Scotland stars, according to reports.

Serie A has become a popular stomping ground for Scottish talent in recent years, with several players moving from the Premiership to Italy including Aaron Hickey, Josh Doig and Lewis Ferguson.

The latter of those three has been the most successful, following in the footsteps of Andrea Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi and Paul Pogba by winning the Bulgarelli award for the country’s best midfielder.

Now two Scots from the Premier League look set for a switch to the three-time Italian champs.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Billy Gilmour has been on the verge of a move to Naples for a few weeks now with just the final details to be hammered out.

Gilmour, 23, was the subject of an £8m bid last month but the Italians have returned with an improved offer of around £10m for the former Rangers and Chelsea starlet.

Corriere dello Sport now claim that Manchester United star Scott McTominay is set to join him.

It’s said the Red Devils will hold out for a £30m fee for the Tartan Army hero.

McTominay, 27, is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and has been touted for a move away for much of the last 12 months.

He scored 10 goals for the club last season (their third top goalscorer) but that didn’t stop rumours of him moving elsewhere, with Newcastle, West Ham and Fulham all being linked.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag previously said on McTominay: “We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs.

“When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest.

“But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad.

“What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”
