My dad is Scotland’s best ever player but he slagged off my career at my wedding
HIS dad is, in most people’s eyes, the greatest footballer to come out of Scotland.
And he isn’t bad when it comes to all-timer one-liners, either.
Sir Kenny Dalglish picked up 102 caps for Scotland and is the joint-record goalscorer for the national team with 30 strikes.
He is a club icon at both Celtic and Liverpool, earning the nickname King Kenny at Anfield to underline his legendary status.
His son Paul is a football agent and was previously a coach and manager, winning several honours in the United States.
But before that he forged a career on the pitch of his own, turning out for Newcastle, Norwich City, Livingston and Hibs among others after spending time in the youth academies of Celtic and Liverpool.

Admittedly the heights that his father hit would have been nigh on impossible to scale but Dalglish Jr reckons he probably could have made more out of his abilities if he’d listened to his old man’s advice a bit more.
However, when he tried to tell him that in a heartfelt speech – on the day he got married, no less – Dalglish Sr came back with an almight quip that left his son absolutely speechless.
Speaking on the FC Bullard podcast, Paul said: “So I’m getting married and you know, me and my dad have always had that relationship that most dads do, where it’s like old school Scottish, like when I was younger he would always tell me I did well but then the car journey home, you’d be tortured, the whole car journey home.
“My mum would go ‘Oh your dad said you did well,’ and he’d just hammered me in the car for the last 10 minutes in the car home.
“That was his kind of way of doing things.
“So at the wedding, I thought, you know what? I’m going to say something nice about my dad. Right. And my mum.
“I said I’ve done this and that in my career, I’ve been quite lucky to do this.
“And I said I’ve been so lucky to have such a good mum and dad and a stable mum and dad.
“And I said, if I’d listened to my dad a little bit more during my career, maybe I’d have achieved a bit more.
“And he shouted, at the wedding, ‘You did listen to me, son. I always told you, you were s****!’
“I swear to God, I swear to God. At the wedding!
“And that was it.
