Sneddon told BBC Scotland: “From quite early on, it was very clear there was a lot of packed ice under the surface. Player safety was the key criteria I was looking at.

“Although the ball can roll, I was very worried about player safety because that ground is really hard. It’s clear with the temperature and forecast that the ice isn’t going anywhere.”

Details of the rearranged fixtures have yet to be announced.

Livingston and Ayr United now have an opportunity to move closer to league-leaders Falkirk on Saturday, when they take on Queen’s Park and Raith Rovers, respectively.

Second-placed Livingston are six points behind Falkirk, while Ayr are a point further back in third.

Airdrieonians are 10 points adrift of Dunfermline Athletic at the foot of the table, with the second-bottom side visiting Partick Thistle.
