Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 Super 8s: All you need to know about the next phase | The Cricketer

The Cricketer breaks down everything you need to know about the Super 8 stage: format, odds, TV and streaming information and much, much more…

How did we get here?

Getting underway on June 2, 40 matches across five groups have delivered eight qualifiers. India, Australia, West Indies and South Africa topped their respective groups, with United States, England, Afghanistan and Bangladesh joining them as runners-up

The eight-seeded teams for the Super 8s were determined by the ICC prior to the tournament. Seeded sides Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka all failed to make the Super 8s, so their seeds have been passed to the United States, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Who is in each Super 8 group?

As per the seeding, India, Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group 1, with South Africa, West Indies, England and USA occupying Group 2.

When does it start?

The Super 8s stage begins on June 20 – when USA will play South Africa – with the semi-finals held on June 26 and 27. The Barbados final is slated for June 29.

Where is it happening?

The remaining matches will be held exclusively in the Caribbean, between Antigua and Barbuda, St Lucia, Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.

What is the Super 8 structure?

Each team will play the other three teams in their Super 8 group once in a round-robin, and the top two teams after those fixtures will advance to the semi-finals, with all completed games ending in a result given super overs are in operation.

In the event of a tiebreak in the Super 8s, the team with the most wins will be placed in a higher position. Net run rate, the first tiebreaker in the group stage, will then be used to separate sides who are still level.

If teams remain equal beyond that, the head-to-head record between the teams in the group will be taken into account.

And should the teams still be level, the positions will be decided on their position in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings as of May 31, 2024.

The winners of the semis will then advance to the Barbados final.
