A SCOTLAND fan who became a Euros star for sheltering a German OAP with a tartan umbrella has told how he is now known as ‘The Brolly Man’.

Ali Murray, 24, has featured on ITV’s This Morning, earned congratulations from Line of Duty actor Martin Compston and been offered free beer after his act of kindness with another supporter.

The Tartan Army pair shielded the frail pensioner during a downpour in Cologne on June 18, the night before Scotland drew 1-1 against Switzerland.

The image of them went viral online — racking up three million views — and even featured on train adverts in the historic city.

Ali, from Ness, Isle of Lewis, recalled: “I only bought the brolly ten minutes before we saw the man. They happened to sell tartan ones, which was brilliant timing.

“We were walking with the guy through the crowd and took him where we thought he wanted to go.

“He gave us a smile and a thumbs-up to say we’d done our bit. It was just a lovely moment.”

The electrician, who plays as a goalie for Ness FC, added: “I don’t even know the other guy I was with, I don’t know his name.

“Germans were asking me to pose for photos and I was being called the umbrella man. I am now simply The Brolly Man.

“I then saw myself on This Morning and all over social media.

“I met Craig Ferguson, 20, who walked from Glasgow to Germany to raise cash for charity.

“And Martin Compston’s team asked me to come to Stuttgart to be on his Euros show, but it didn’t fit in with my flights.

“Tennent’s Lager officials also asked for my address and offered me some beers — I’m hoping they will still honour that.”

Ali added: “I only got back to Scotland last Sunday but when I was in the local shop everybody knew it was me in the video.

“And my team had a game this week and it was raining — so folk were offering to buy me a brolly.”
