Meet the Scotland fan who took his wife to Croatia game for their honeymoon

A DIE-HARD member of the Tartan Army has managed to convince his wife to follow Scotland to Croatia… on their HONEYMOON.

Thomas and Paige Mackintosh tied the knot last Tuesday and despite the fact Paige is English born and bred, she’s now a proud supporter of the men in dark blue.

Steve Clarke‘s squad are over in Zagreb at the moment for the Nations League clash against Luka Modric and Croatia.

It’s a game Scotland desperately need a result in, having lost their opening two matches in the competition to Poland and Portugal.

Clarke has admitted the current 14-game winless run has been “horrible” but for Thomas and Paige, a few days in Zagreb will hopefully provide them with some lasting memories and something to smile about.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Paige was asked how the trip came about.

And while Thomas is the one who’s been dragging her to games over the past few years, it was actually Paige’s idea to head to Croatia just a few days after tying the knot.

She said: “He knows how to treat a lady but I’ll tell you, I was the one that pitched it.

“But yeah, no regrets. We’ve got Poland in a few weeks so very excited.”

Paige joked how her dad, an England supporter, hates the fact she now follows Scotland everywhere they go.

She said: “I adopted the Tartan Army three years ago now, I think.

“And I hated football four years ago.

“Scotland vs Moldova, September 2021. That changed everything.

“I’ve been going home and away ever since then.

“And my English father hates it.”

In between the sightseeing on offer in Zagreb, of course the main attraction is the match itself.

And the newlyweds had a go at predicting the result in the moments before kick-off.

Paige said: “I’m feeling okay, I think it might be a draw.

“I’ll go for 1-1.”

While Thomas said: “I dunno, I’ve got a sneaky feeling we might sneak something out of this one.

“There’s no expectations going into it. There’s a lot of injuries and a lot of boys will just use this as a chance to prove themselves.

“But I would honestly love it if we snuck a 1-0 or a draw or something.

“But, maybe that’s the alcohol talking!”
