‘Man Utd directors should be arrested for giving Scott McTominay away’
MANY Man Utd fans have been left thinking it was a criminal decision to sell Scotland hero Scott McTominay in the summer.
And one outspoken former Celtic striker has joked the call to move McTominay on warrants ARREST.
Hampden favourite McTominay, 27, swapped Man Utd for Napoli in the summer in a £25million deal.
The midfield maestro had spent his entire career at Old Trafford, making more than 250 appearances in all competitions.
Despite being a regular fixture under Erik ten Hag last season – and the club’s third top scorer – United decided to let McTominay leave.
And it’s fair to say McSauce hasn’t looked back.
He’s become an instant hit in Naples and is fast becoming a huge fans’ favourite with the club sitting top of the table.
McTominay has chipped in with a couple of goals too, netting in a 5-0 thumping of Palermo in the Coppa Italia and last week’s 3-1 Serie A triumph over Como.
In a summer that also saw the bumper signings of Romelu Lukaku, David Neres, Alessandro Buongiorno and fellow Scotland ace Billy Gilmour, it’s McTominay who so far is proving to be their new main man.
As well as taking McTominay to their hearts, Napoli punters have also become huge fans of his stunning partner Cam Reading.
Cam herself has also said she’s “fallen in love” with the city.
While Napoli are flying high, it’s a different story at his now former club, United.
The Red Devils are languishing in 14th place having won just two of their opening seven matches.
It’s their worst EVER start to a Premier League season after this number of games.
The pressure is very much on Dutch boss ten Hag to turn things around and fast.
Following McTominay’s departure, United splashed £42m to land Uruguay star Manuel Ugarte from PSG.
But so far, the 23-year old has failed to set the world alight.
Man Utd’s struggles coupled with McTominay’s seemingly ever-growing success has led to plenty of punters declaring that it was the WRONG decision to let him leave.
And former Celtic and West Ham striker Paolo Di Canio is certainly pulling no punches in his assessment.
He’s suggested that he’d be willing to go to Manchester to ARREST United’s directors for allowing McTominay to move on.
He blasted to Il Mattino: “I would go to Manchester United to arrest all the directors.
“How can you give McTominay away?”
With a nod to Billy Gilmour, Di Canio added: “Gilmour at Brighton has shown that he has the same characteristics of coming out with the ball at his feet and lucidity as Lobotka.”
McTominay and Gilmour are currently away on international duty with Scotland.
Steve Clarke’s men will take on Croatia in Zagreb in Saturday before hosting Portugal at Hampden on Tuesday.
