Tens of thousands of footsoldiers invaded the city over the past 48 hours for a party ahead of the crunch clash.

And an army of supporters back home will tune in from their living rooms and in pubs for our first foreign soil major tournament in 26 years.

Braveheart legend James Cosmo was confident ahead of the match.

The veteran actor, who played William Wallace’s righthand man Campbell, in the 90s screen classic roared: “Come on boys – you can do it!”

And the 76-year-old even predicted the score adding: “One nil will do for us.”

TV queen Lorraine Kelly, 64, who’s in Germany today for the opener, added: “I can’t believe I’m going to be there to support our boys in such an important and exciting match. I know they will play their hearts out and make us proud.

“They work together so well as a team and our manager Steve Clarke has been brilliant in nurturing new talent.

“It’s going to be a cracker and I wish them all the best.”

Only an Excuse star Jonathan Watson also sent his best wishes to the Scotland team and manager Steve Clarke.

Jonathan, 66, who did an hilarious impressions of the dour Scotland boss for the BBC’s All Star Euros Sketch Show, said: “I’m really looking forward to the game and wish all the best to Stevie Clarke and the boys.

Now let’s go and get a result.”

And Rebus author Sir Ian Rankin insists he’ll be “dancing in the streets of Raith” if Scotland beat the host nation tonight.

The Fife-born writer recalled the famous saying by 1960s BBC commentator Sam Leitch to sum up how he’d feel with a victory.

Sir Ian, 64, said: “Being a realist, when not a pessimist, I’d settle for a draw – 2-2 maybe?

“So get in about them, make them fight for every ball and leave the field smiling. Any win will do!”

While The Krankies believe our rousing bagpipes will help pip the Germans in their own back yard.

Husband and wife duo Ian and Janette Tough, both 77, said: “The German’s oompah bands aren’t a match for the skirl of the pipes. We have a great team and we’re convinced they’ll give us a fan-dabi-dozi night to remember.”

And Two Doors Down star Alex Norton had some tactical advice for Steve Clarke to give his German rivals a fright.

“It’d be good to see a few goals in game one. Isn’t always the case?

“If Scotland do beat Germany though, I’ll be dancing in the streets of Raith…”

Ex-Scotland striker Frank McAvennie said: “Boys, this will be one of the biggest stages in your life, enjoy it but do Scotland proud.

“I know what it’s like to play at a major tournament , drink it in and don’t leave anything on the pitch. You are part of one of the best crops of players Scotland has had in a long time so make us all proud.”

And Still Game fave Jane McCarry reenacted the spirit of Craiglang gossip Isa Drennan when she warned the hosts that they’re in for a shock.

Jane, 53, said: “Germany, we’re gonna pump you rotten.”

Rab C. Nesbitt fave Tony Roper believes Scotland will bring the fight to Germany.

The 83-year-old actor, who played Jamesie Cotter in the BBC sitcom, said: “We’re always better when we’re the underdogs.

Alex, 74, who played neighbour Eric Baird in the hit BBC sitcom, said: “Wear kilts on the pitch instead of shorts, lads.

“It’ll definitely put them off their stroke whenever you do a sliding tackle.

“Good luck to you all.”

Star Wars actor Jimmy Vee hopes the force is strong with the Scotland squad tonight.

Only an Excuse? Creator Philip Differ praised Steve Clarke and his team for already giving the country a massive boost by qualifying for the Euros – regardless of the result tonight.

The 65-year-old TV comedy writer said: “Scotland has lifted the spirits of the nation by helping us ignore all those politicians begging for our votes. Now they can lift us that wee bit further by giving Germany a fright in their own Deutschland and with a 1-1 draw.”

Rab C. Nesbitt creator Ian Pattison wants the team to tap into spirit of Archie Gemmell and his 1978 wonder goal tonight.

The 73-year-old writer issued his own team talk when he said: “Squad listen up, always remember, every one of you is the love child of Archie Gemmell. You will never be pumped. All defeats will be glorious, all victories gallus as f**k. Draws are to be regarded as a moral victory. Remember this and we will annihilate Germany 0-0.”

A record two million TV viewers – one in two Scots – will watch the Germany Euro game on STV tonight with four million pints drunk on pubs’ biggest night of the decade.

National Grid is even set for a power surge at half-time, as a million fridge doors open as fans crack open another beer, and many others put the kettle on.
