Kieran Tierney set to play key role for Scotland at Euro 2024 in bid to move on
Kieran Tierney is one of Scotland’s best players, and he will be huge for them at Euro 2024.
The former Celtic man has just completed a season-long loan at Real Sociedad and heads to Germany off the back of a decent season.
Tierney‘s career has somewhat stagnated in recent years, so he’ll hope a good tournament can get him a summer move away.
Is Kieran Tierney still at Arsenal?
Yes, the 27-year-old is still officially an Arsenal player, but he hasn’t represented the club in over a year.
He hasn’t started for the Gunners since a 3-0 defeat to Brighton in May 2023, and he’s very much up for sale.
Mikel Arteta has four players in his squad who can play at left-back, including Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jakub Kiwior and the returning Jurrien Timber.
Tierney’s Arsenal contract expires in 2026, meaning the Gunners are running out of time to make much money from his sale, while the player himself wants first-team football.
The Gunners are said to be looking for just £10 million to part ways with the Scottish left-back.
Speaking to talkSPORT about his future, Tierney revealed it was unlikely he remains in north London.
He said: “You never know in football.
“It’s probably quite rare that it happens when you come back from a loan.
‘”Of course, you’ve got circumstances like [William] Saliba where they’ve just come back and I don’t think he’s been out the team since.
“But it’s maybe a bit different for someone who has played four years already and goes back, but you genuinely never know.
“Football is a mad place, so let’s see what happens.”
So, Tierney is still at Arsenal, but it’s hard to see how he’ll be there by the end of the transfer window.
This is because he’s arguably now fifth choice at left-back, while he’s still only 27 and has the quality to play in a top European league.
Hopefully, he has a great Euro 2024 and gets a move away for the sake of his career.
