Kieran Tierney left the pitch on a stretcher after picking up a nasty injury during Scotland’s Euro 2024 clash against Switzerland.

The defender was forced to come off in the 61st minute of Wednesday night’s huge game in Cologne which finished 1-1.

Scott McTominay’s deflected strike gave the Tartan Army the lead after just 13 minutes but soon after Xherdan Shaqiri pounced on a Anthony Ralston mistake to score a stunning equaliser.

On the hour mark, Tierney was attempting to fend off Dan Ndoye on the edge of the box but in the process caught his studs in the grass and hyperextended his leg.

He instantly grabbed his hamstring and stayed on the ground, quickly calling for the stretched and indicating to manager Steve Clarke that his game was other.

The Arsenal star, who spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad was visibly distraught as he was stretched off and replaced by Scott McKenna.

The 27-year-old has suffered with plenty of injury issues in the past, including hamstrings and likely already knows the severity of this latest setback.

Speaking post-match to the BBC, Scotland boss Steve Clarke confirmed when many has already guessed, saying that Tierney is ‘definitely out’ of the now crucial match against Hungary.

‘Yeah, definitely out. It looks pretty bad. Obviously we have to assess it but Kieran won’t play the last group game.

‘You have to feel for Kieran. He’d got himself in great shape. A top player for us, he’s doing ever so well.

‘It’s a shame but someone else will have to step in and step up to the mark.’

The match was a thrilling, end-to-end encounter, with Scotland getting a much-needed point following the humiliating 5-1 defeat to hosts Germany in the Euros opener last Friday.

The result leaves them third in Group A, but they are very likely going to need a win against Hungary on Sunday if they want to progress to the knockout stages.
