John Carver gives major update on Andy Robertson and Lawrence Shankland injuries
SCOTLAND assistant boss John Carver has provided a major update on the fitness of Andy Robertson and Lawrence Shankland.
The captain and the striker were both forced to pull out of this morning’s training session, the squad’s first at their German base in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ahead of the Euros.
Scotland kicks things off against the hosts in the opening game on Friday night.
And Carver insists both players will be fine for that match.
He described their departures from the session as “precautionary”.
Carver said: “(Robertson) is fine. It’s just a precaution really.

“I spoke to him. The ball just caught his ankle and he will train tomorrow.
“He’ll be fine. At this stage we’re being extra cautious. He’s okay and looking forward to tomorrow.
“It’s never nice, especially with the luck we’ve been having lately.
“As soon as training finished I popped across and had a chat wit him and he’s in good form.”
On Shankland, Carver said: “He had a little bit of a niggle from the other night.
“He’s in that process and he had quite a bit of game time in the two games we played (against Gibraltar and Finland).
“We’re just protecting him as well.
“Everyone’s got their own programme.
“He’s fine, everybody’s good.”
Robertson returned to the sidelines to watch his team mates train later in the session.
The outlook is better for Steve Clarke than many feared but the fitness scare is still an unwanted disruption to his preparations for the Germany game in a few days’ time.
Clarke has had to deal with a long list of injuries in the build-up, with right-back duo Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson crocked and Lewis Ferguson ruled out months ago, before recent problems for Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak.
