James Forrest Lifts Lid On Scotland Call-up; Admits Cancelled Holiday Plans | Latest Celtic News
If you told a Celtic fan at the turn of the year that James Forrest would be in the provisional Scotland squad for the upcoming European Championships you would have been met with a sheer sense of disbelief.
The winger, though, has made the cut amid his end-of-season Hoops form where he set it alight and was key in the winning of a double.
The veteran attacker scored a pivotal brace at Dens Park post-split and changed the Bhoys’ Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen for the better.
Forrest’s experience and trophy-winning know-how have proved key and ensured he is now the second most decorated player in Celtic history.
His Scotland call-up is fully merited, but the 32-year-old has admitted he didn’t even receive a phone call from Steve Clarke about it.
He said: (Glasgow Times) “We were actually training and when I came into the changing room a few of the boys were shaking a few of the Scotland boys’ hands. It had literally just been announced. I didn’t have a clue!
“I saw that Steve Clarke said in an interview he didn’t call Ben Doak either. He likes the excitement that way and it was a great boost for me, especially going into the Scottish Cup final.
“Off the back of the last couple of months, to get in the Scotland squad is great for me.”
Forrest hasn’t played for the national team since the last Euros, and he was even pictured turning up to the camp with some of his belongings in a bin bag.
One cannot deny the fact he didn’t expect to be off to Germany, with him even stating he has had to cancel his summer holidays.
“I did [have to cancel my holidays]!”, he said.
“Just because it was a late call, but I was more than happy to. It was an easy decision.
“It was meant to be this week [that I was going away]. We’ll just get our holidays at the end of the Euros anyway.”
