‘It’s better to remain silent,’ says raging Portugal star after Scotland draw

CRISTIANO RONALDO made his feelings clear towards referee Lawrence Visser on the pitch during the clash at Hampden.

Then one of his team-mates let rip at the whistler to Portuguese media with an astonishing rant at full-time.

Ronaldo, 39, endured a frustrating Hampden debut in front of a sell-out crowd as his side failed to penetrate Scotland‘s backline in the Nations League match.

The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend had plenty of chances to put his side in front but he failed to get the better of Steve Clarke‘s men at the national stadium.

Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes and was visibly outraged at various decisions made by Belgian Visser throughout the tie.

He continued to make a beeline for the official on multiple occasions to moan and display his anger but it didn’t help his nation’s case as they still headed out of Glasgow without three points.

But Ronaldo wasn’t the only one fuming with the officiating on the park.

Team-mate Palhinha took out his frustrations on the referee after the game when he addressed the media.

Although the Bayern Munich star admitted Clarke had set up his side so well that they were difficult to play against, he did claim Portugal deserved three points from Hampden.

But in a stunning rant towards the whistler, Palhinha confessed it would be “better to stay silent” and said he didn’t want to “mince his words” when reviewing the official’s performance,

Speaking in his native tongue, he said: “Refereeing? If I were to give my honest opinion..

“I don’t want to mince words, it’s better to remain silent. For those who understand, half a word is enough.

Scotland fans pay tribute to Alex Salmond before Portugal clash

“But that’s not why we didn’t win the game. I would like to stress that we are still in first place and I hope we can maintain this good streak.

“We deserved to get something more out of this game, even though it’s always difficult to play in Scotland.

“Our dominance in the game was clear. We deserved more than a draw. But I would like to highlight the work we’ve been doing.

“We’re still in first place and we hope to secure qualification in the next two games, which will be difficult.”
