Inside Scotland star’s dream debut as WAG and young son follow him to Hampden

IT was a much-needed night of positivity for Scotland on Tuesday as they halted their losing run with a brave 0-0 draw with Portugal.

And one Scotland star made particularly fond memories as he came on for his debut and helped keep a clean sheet against Cristiano Ronaldo and co. at Hampden.

Nicky Devlin has enjoyed a fine start to the season with Aberdeen, playing every league match as the Dons have won seven from seven in the Premiership, and even scoring two goals from right-back.

And Steve Clarke rewarded him with a call-up to the Scotland squad, bringing the 30-year-old on for his international debut against the Portuguese.

Devlin only came on in the 88th minute but still made a big contribution to the result as he produced a crucial block from Rafael Leao’s late goalbound effort.

It was a special day for the Devlin family, and Nicky’s wife Lauren documented the occasion with a video of her and the couple’s young son heading to Hampden to see the proud moment live.

The video shows Devlin’s boy, wearing a Scotland shirt with ‘Daddy 22’ on the back, being taken to the stadium alongside several members of Devlin’s family.

Captioned ‘Watching Daddy make his Debut for Scotland’, it also features the moment Devlin went out to warm up, the moment he was substituted on as well as some footage of him celebrating with team-mates at full-time.

It was a good night for Scotland but not for Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus superstar was kept quiet by John Souttar, Grant Hanley and the rest of Scotland’s backline, growing more frustrated with each failed attack.

And that frustration boiled over at full-time, when the 39-year-old lost his rag as referee Lawrence Visser blew the full-time whistle before Portugal could take a final corner kick.

The forward stormed around the pitch, flailing his arms, sarcastically clapping and throwing thumbs down gestures.

Ronaldo’s post on Instagram later on Tuesday was a little more cryptic, simply reading: “We continue together.”
