Inside plush spa hotel where Steve Clarke and the squad will prep for the Euros

STEVE Clarke will be on top of the world at Euro 2024 – as the Scotland manager has claimed the penthouse suite at the team’s mountain base.

The national boss will live a life of luxury when the squad arrives in Germany for the showpiece tournament next month.

He will take up residence in Hotel Obermühle — the poshest accommodation available in picturesque Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Bavarian Alps.

And sales manager Katrin Koschmieder gave us an all-access tour of the suite, which costs up to £1,100 per night.

She quipped: “Steve Clarke has the sauna, a direct view to the training pitch and all he needs . . . so it won’t be our fault if they’re losing.”

The gaffer, 60, hand-picked the team’s training base for its peaceful surroundings and closeness to Munich, which is just 90 minutes away.
Perhaps he was partly swayed by his incredible suite that also boasts multiple bedrooms, a kitchen area, a huge balcony and stunning mountain views.

Meanwhile, management and players will be able to take advantage of an infinity pool, mini-golf course, cinema and arcade.

The players’ rooms feature a balcony with a view and all the mod cons you’d expect from a luxury ski resort, with the training pitch just a five-minute walk.

The hotel, which has been hired exclusively by Scotland during the Euros, has even bought a pizza oven especially for the team and created a special menu so the squad can keep in tip-top shape.

Katrin, who expects up to 80 people from the national set-up, is already rooting for Clarke’s side in the first game on June 14 in Munich’s Allianz Arena, despite them playing the host nation.

She said: “We decided to root for Scotland. When we knew the first game was against Germany, we understood it was problematic. We’re really excited to have the team here. Lots of hotels were applying to be team base camps and when we heard Scotland would be here, we were so happy.

“We have made plans from housekeeping to kitchen to management — it’s a nice experience for us.”

England, France and Wales also sent representatives to the hotel after it was listed in an official UEFA guide.

Scotland was first to snap it up, with Katrin confirming bosses fell in love with the stunning scenery and historic architecture. She and the staff are now counting down the days until the first match against her native Germany. It will be a late night for all involved, after the referee blows the final whistle.

Katrin revealed: “Scotland are very motivated and they want to win.
“They will be coming back to the hotel around 2am and we will make dinner for them.

“It’s a very different day for us.”

Owner Christian Wolf has also confirmed that he and his staff will be supporting the Tartan Army, even hoping to replace their uniforms with Scotland shirts.

He added: “I am certain all teams have high expectations of their accommodation during the European Championships.

“In our case, we are delighted to be able to offer the Scottish team an unforgettable stay.

“In a certain sense, luxury is a prerequisite for success.

“We are passionate about this tournament and feel responsible for the individual success as hosts.

“This means that we — including the German employees — will particularly support and cheer the Scottish team. I guess the whole town will reflect this spirit.”
