I wrote ‘gallus’ Scotland Euro 2024 dance track – it’s so catchy
BUCKFAST, Burns and John Logie Baird all feature in the Scotland Euro 2024 banger that will have the Tartan Army bouncing all the way to Bavaria.
And there are special mentions for our deep fried cuisine and music scene in this dance track for Deutschland too.
All aspects of modern Scottish society have meshed together in new party anthem – ‘Shot at Glory’ by the Caledonian Dream.
But the bouncy combination of all the optimism, fun and history of the country has even found an unlikely fan ahead of the big one in Germany.
Singer-songwriter John Murray’s wife is fully behind the track – even though she’s ENGLISH.
She’s one of the many caught up by the infectious tune and catchy lyrics – he’s even had the song chanted at him from cars at traffic lights in his Ayrshire village.

John told Sunsport: “Amy’s from Manchester so she’s keeping her heid down! But she is loving it – like we all are.
“It’s been really well received on Spotify and 30,000 views in a fortnight on Youtube is brilliant.
“Flower of Scotland is a great song but it’s a dirge – it’s slow. You want something that lifts it with hands in the air and bouncing for the troops.
“It’s been so long since we were away at a tournament and the build up for each would always include a song.
“England always seem to do it well. I love World in Motion and they’ve had other catchy and bouncy songs that get their fans right up for it.
“Scotland need that, I want that – because I’m so excited about going.
“I don’t think there’s ever been a banger, a dance music tune for Scotland as an anthem. It’s usually slow ones or comedy tunes.
“The sound of Scotland is dance music – that’s what folk have been going to at clubs and parties for years and years and we wanted to tie that in.”
The video to accompany the track is produced by BAFTA-winning TV editor Dave Clark too with clips filmed throughout Glasgow, Dunlop and the Ayrshire seaside.
Former journalist John, a careers advisor by day, went on: “I wanted something with a bit of oomph.
“I’d spoken to the boys in my rock band – the Leather Corridor – but then I thought of my old pal Dave who makes dance music.
“He’s been making techno tunes for 30 years.
“He knew exactly what to do. Once we’d done the tune he said lets get a video together and get all the weans involved. And we did.
“We shot with Bruce [Joliffe] the piper down at the beach and got his daughters involved – it captures it all perfectly.
“You have to choose your words wisely and just the tonic was deliberate with the pre-match drink in mind, then there’s Burns for the Ayrshire troops, our impact on the world and of course the bagpipes and Super John McGinn. We tried to capture it all.
“We wanted something gallus and ‘let’s just go for it’. We didn’t want ‘Don’t come home too soon’.
“We might get smashed out…. but what if we don’t? We need a song to bounce about to when we’re winning.
“We wanted something catchy, upbeat and something that could be sung on a terrace all as one. There were negative and political bits in the original lyrics but they just didn’t sit right with it – it’s upbeat and fun – and that’s the Tartan Army to a tee.”
He’s hoping to hear it pumping out of bars and clubs as he and his friends – and sons Joe and Sammy make their way to Cologne via Brussels and Dusseldorf.
He added: ” I’m taking my two teenage boys to soak it all up. There’s a squad of 20 of us going and I wanted something that gets the troops up for it.
“I’ve loved the song spreading but we’re still looking for tickets and the other two guys in the band have told me to stop asking and sounding so desperate.

“But if anyone does have a couple spare… that’d be just the tonic!”
