Housing application at Helensburgh Golf Club withdrawn

Proposals to deliver a residential development on part of a Helensburgh golf course have been withdrawn.

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland and Helensburgh Golf Club lodged a detailed planning application last January for a newly modernised Helensburgh Golf Club and a residential development to the north of Machrie Drive/Kent Drive on land at East Abercromby Street.

As part of the overall development, the housebuilder proposed to deliver around 307 new homes in a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, of which 25% will be affordable housing, part of which will be delivered by Dunbritton Housing Association and part by Taylor Wimpey.

The proposal also includes plans for new access arrangements, landscaping, formal and informal play equipment and drainage.

The land outlined for the development included plans to demolish the existing clubhouse and ancillary buildings and construct a new clubhouse with supporting facilities.

An email to council planning officers made available as part of the latest application documents has asked for the application to be withdrawn.

The documents do not make it clear whether the plans will be re-submitted.

As part of the plan, there was to be a full revision and upgrade of new and retained golf holes to provide an enhanced community facility of an 18-hole golf course and create a new six-hole par 3 course.

Argyll and Bute Council received 88 objections from the public to the plans.
