Hearts star apologises for talking down quality of Scottish football

KENNETH VARGAS has said sorry to his Hearts mates after moaning he wanted to bail out of Scottish football.

The Costa Rica striker tried to claim comments made to reporters in his homeland — which also slated the Scottish game — had been taken out of context.

But boss Neil Critchley revealed he addressed the issue with the 22-year-old — and doesn’t want a repeat.

He said: “I spoke to him on Sunday. We had a good conversation. I know he has apologised to his team-mates.

“I said to him how I felt and made a couple of things clear to him.

“He explained what he was attempting to say. He has learned from the experience. Hopefully we can’t have an issue like that again in the future.

“He knows my feelings as well but that’s a private conversation between me and Kenneth.

“He’s a good guy, a good person. Since I’ve been here, he trains really well every day.

“He’s committed to this club and wants to get better. That’s my job to help him.”

Hearts jetted to Bruges yesterday, where over 3,000 fans will back them in tonight’s Conference League clash with Cercle.

And Critchley wants to make the trip a memorable one for them.
The Jambos sit 12th in the league-phase table and a victory would put them in a strong position to progress.

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes ISN’T the answer to Rangers’ problems says Bill Leckie

He said: “The Wetherspoons at the airport was doing great business!
“We say it as a staff, it must be brilliant to follow your club in Europe and go away with family and friends and enjoy yourself.

“We have to concentrate on the football but sometimes we think you wouldn’t mind being in that yourself.

“I’ve been here before, years ago, with Liverpool and we played Club Brugge Under-21s.

“It’s a fantastic place but we’re here to do a job and prepare for a really important game.

“I hope they have a great night, a good day in the city, then hopefully we can go out and give them a performance that’s a really good representation of Hearts.”
