This summer’s Euro is a big opportunity for Germany to get back to prominence on the international stage. It has not been good for the Germans recently at World Cups or Euros, as the farthest they’ve gotten in the last three events is the round of 16. Coming off a group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup, this revamped Germany team is looking to make an early statement in front of its home fans. Scotland qualified for the last Euro after missing five tournaments, a sign this generation could be building something special. Scotland went 0-1-2 in the group stage at that Euro.

Emre Can has replaced Aleksandar Pavlovic but that’s the only major injury news for Germany. Leroy Sane is expected to be fit as is Niclas Fullkrug, though neither are expected to start. Captain Andy Robertson is good to go for Scotland after suffering an injury scare in the last match. Scotland will be without Aaron Hickey, Ben Doak and Lyndon Dykes for the tournament.

I could see Germany potentially falling flat against Switerzland in the opening game but I don’t think they’ll falter against this Scotland side. Scotland does have plenty of experience but the talent gap will be too much to overcome in front of Germany’s home fans. Give me the hosts to register three points to start Euro 2024.
