Germany vs. Scotland expected lineups, starting 11, team news: Wirtz, McTominay to do battle in Euro 2024 opener | Sporting News

In Munich’s Allianz Arena, football fans will brace for a thrilling Euro 2024 opener as Germany square off against Scotland in Group A.

For the host nation, this European Championship presents a big chance to bounce back from past disappointments, while Scotland aim to make their mark by achieving a first knockout-round appearance.

Julian Nagelsmann, back on familiar turf after his Bayern Munich stint, leads Germany’s charge. His team are seeking to shine in the post-Joachim Low era, aiming for European glory for the first time since 1996.

Germany, favourites to finish top of the group, boast a solid record in friendlies but haven’t faced competitive action since 2022, having qualified for these finals automatically by virtue of being the hosts. Scotland, with just one win in their past nine games, are hoping to upset the odds.

In head-to-head clashes, Germany hold the edge, winning eight times compared with Scotland’s four victories, with five matches ending in a draw. Scotland’s recent record against these opponents hasn’t been stellar, but in football, surprises are always possible. This Allianz Arena clash promises an electrifying start to Euro 2024.
