Germany Vs Scotland Euro 2024 Prediction: The Panel's Best Bets, Tips And Preview

Germany vs Scotland prediction:

Euro 2024 kicks off as hosts Germany face off against Scotland in Munich on Friday night (8pm, ITV1), raising the curtain on a month of intense action.

Die Mannschaft carry the weight of an expectant nation, especially after the disappointment of their group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup. Julian Nagelsmann’s side are one of the leading contenders with UK betting sites to win the crown at 11/2

Germany have not fared well in recent major competitions and the aura around the national team needs to be reinvigorated. Scotland will put them to the test in their Group A opener, although their recent form heading into the tournament is not encouraging.

The Panel have considered the form guide, trends, team news and the odds with their three betting predictions for the opening match of the tournament.

Germany vs Scotland Prediction: Hosts To Make Solid Start

The pressure will be on Germany in Munich to make a strong start to the competition. Die Mannschaft have lost their opening match at the last three major tournaments, including a 1-0 defeat to France in Euro 2020.

Nagelsmann has overseen an improvement in their form heading into the tournament, recording wins over France, Netherlands and Greece in friendly matches.

But, there are still concerns about Germany’s prowess in the final third. Kai Havertz and Niclas Fullkrug are battling to lead the line for Die Mannschaft, but neither are clinical finishers in the penalty area.

Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala represent a bright future in the midfield, while Nico Schlotterbeck and Jonathan Tah are coming off impressive seasons at the back for Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.

Scotland will relish the role of spoilers, but Steve Clarke’s men enter the tournament with a lengthy injury list and on a worrying run of form. Scotland have won only one of their last nine, which came against Gibraltar in a friendly.

In that time, they’ve lost to England, France, Spain and Netherlands. The Panel are not optimistic that Clarke’s men are ready for the challenge of Die Mannschaft, especially in front of a raucous crowd.

The Panel are expecting Germany to begin with a win, keeping a clean sheet in the process, with odds of evens available on football betting sites

Germany vs Scotland Betting: Havertz To Continue Arsenal Form

Eyebrows were raised when Arsenal paid £65m to sign Havertz from Chelsea last summer

But, the forward defied his critics with an encouraging first season for the Gunners. He broke double figures in the Premier League for the first time of his career, notching 13 goals as Mikel Arteta’s men finished as runners-up behind Manchester City.

Havertz was only outscored by Bukayo Saka, highlighting his importance in Arsenal’s side.

He can play the same role for Germany, but the quest for a successor to Miroslav Klose does not look like ending any time soon for Die Mannschaft.

Havertz is the highest-ranked Germany player in the Euro 2024 top goalscorer odds at 25/1 on betting apps, but he lacks a certain gravitas compared to France and England’s options with Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane.

The 25-year-old has scored 16 goals in 45 appearances and should have ample opportunities to add to his tally against Scotland. For Germany to have a strong tournament, Havertz will need to flourish in the final third.

His confidence should be high and The Panel believe he can find his form in the opener by scoring any time at odds of 8/5 on Bet365.

The Panel Tip: Kai Havertz To Score Anytime – 8/5 Bet365

Germany vs Scotland Tips: Clarke’s Men To Rack Up Yellows

International tournaments are not usually a port of call for high card counts.

At the last Euros, 151 yellow and six red cards were brandished during the competition an average of just under three per game. However, The Panel believe Scotland could be the ones to watch in the opener to lose their discipline.

They did earn 19 yellow cards in eight matches in qualifying. Referee Clement Turpin has been assigned the opener, and he averaged 3.47 cards per game in 17 Ligue 1 matches last season.

The Frenchman could lay down the law early and set the tone for the Euros.

Scotland do have players that are no strangers to yellow cards, notably John McGinn and Billy Gilmour, who earned nine and eight cautions in the Premier League last season.

The Panel have noted the card lines on Unibet for Scotland and like the price of over 2.5 cards at 7/5
