Five Scotland football fans injured in head-on crash in Germany

Five Scottish football fans have been hospitalised after their hire car crashed within minutes of leaving a German airport.

Police in Dusseldorf said a blood sample was taken from the driver, as he was suspected of drink-driving and was also believed to have been driving on the wrong side of the road.

Two of the vehicle’s occupants were in a serious condition after the crash and three others were described as slightly injured.

The ages of the injured men were given as between 23 and 25.

It is thought that the rented Citroen C3 was being driven on the left-hand side of the road — rather than the right — as it exited Weeze airport, in the Lower Rhine region, just after midnight on Friday.
