Finland 2 Scotland 0: Scots suffer Euro 2025 heartbreak after play-off defeat

SCOTLAND’s hopes of qualifying for the Euros came crashing down in Helsinki.

Pedro Martinez Losa’s side needed a huge away win to book their place in Switzerland after the first leg at Easter Road finished goalless.

But first half goals from Natalia Kuikka and Nea Lehtola made it a night to forget for the Scots in Finland.

Losa made just one change for the return leg in Finland with Kirsty Hanson replacing Lisa Evans in the starting XI.

Marko Saloranta made a triple change in the other dugout, including a swap of keepers with Tinja-Riikka Korpela taking Anna Tamminen’s place between the sticks.

Scotland were hoping to join the likes of Spain, England and France at next summer’s tournament after missing out on the 2022 edition.

But the Scots failed to find the net in either leg and the Finns came out on top on their home patch.

However, they fell hard done by after they were denied what has been labelled a stonewall penalty in the first half.
