Explained: Why is there no third umpire for Scotland vs Australia T20I series? | Sporting News India

Australia is in the middle of their T20I series with Scotland and in the 2nd T20I, during an incident of stumping, fans got to know that there is no third umpire in the series, raising questions.

After defeating the host, Scotland by 7 wickets on Wednesday, September 4, Australia yet again took the field at the Grange Club on Friday, September 6 to win the series before the third and final T20I.

However, in the middle of the game, it came to people’s notice that there was no third umpire in the ongoing series when a tight stumping decision against Jake Fraser-McGurk was not reviewed.

Why is there no third umpire in Scotland vs Australia T20I series?

Fans took to social media, asking questions regarding the same while a lot of them speculated that it was a cost cutting measure from Scotland’s side to not have a third umpire and hence related technologies like the DRS.

As of now, there has been no official word regarding the matter from either Scotland Cricket or Cricket Australia but it can be assumed that the lack of facility on the club ground led to the decision of not having the third umpire and other technology.

What happened in the Scotland vs Australia series?

Following the carnage from Travis Head in the first game where he helped Australia chase down 154 runs in just 9.4 overs while scoring 80 off just 25, the Aussies were asked to bat first on Friday by Scotland captain, Richie Berrington after winning the toss. Australia posted 196 runs for the loss of 4 wickets and Josh Inglis scored a 49-ball-103.

The third T20I of the series will be played tomorrow at the same venue before Australia heads towards England for their white-ball tour of 3 T20Is and 5 ODIS ahead of the home summer.
