Exact date Mike Ashley’s new Frasers store to open at major Scots retail outlet
THE opening date for Mike Ashley’s new Frasers store at a major Scottish shopping outlet has been revealed.
The former Debenhams department store at Dundee‘s Overgate Shopping Centre is currently getting a £5million transformation.
It will be the location for the new Frasers store – which is set to open its doors in May.
It comes after the Sports Direct tycoon snapped up the Overgate last year.
The major retail hub already houses a range of big brand names including Primark, Boots, Next and H&M.
But the company taking over the centre owns a range of big brands that are moving in.
Flannels, a high-end brand owned by the Frasers Group, is also set to open up in the shopping centre in the former Argos unit, The Courier reports.
And it has been planned that the store will open on the same day as Frasers.
A provisional opening date of May 8 has been set.
The new Frasers store will boast a cosmetics and fashion section on the ground floor.
Fashion chain USC will be situated on the first floor, with Sports Direct, Evans Cycles and GAME on the top floor.
The current Sports Direct and USC units, which are already in the centre, will become empty.
Overgate Shopping Centre manager Malcolm Angus told The Courier: “It is one of the largest shop fit-outs Dundee has ever seen.
“They stripped the old Debenhams back to the brick. Lifted all the floors so they took it right back to the screed. The floors have been re-screeded.
“So everything is going to be brand new and it will be an example of a modern department store that will be great for the whole of the Overgate and Dundee as a whole.
“The current plan is for Frasers and Flannels to open at the same time, but we’ll see. The Flannels project alone is significant.
“Argos is a much bigger unit than people think because the counter was at the front and work hasn’t started on it yet.”
Fraser Group has been approached for comment.
The centre has been undergoing a substantial transformation with several new brands opening shop.
These include Rituals, Pandora, Lovisa, Bee Inspired, and The Leith Collective.
