Ex-Rangers star makes shock appearance in celebrity-packed Euro 2024 squad video
FRANKIE BOYLE, Julie Fleeting, the World’s Strongest man and Pat Nevin.
It’s as unlikely a Scotland squad as you could think to assemble.
But it’s the colourful cast drafted in by the Scottish FA to help reveal Steve Clarke‘s Euro 2024 squad heading for Germany.
It’s only a long-list at present, with two stars set to miss out from the 28-strong selection announced this week.
That included Liverpool wonderkid Ben Doak, comeback kid James Forrest and returning veteran Craig Gordon too.
But the major announcement was given the big build-up online – with a bewildering twist a day before it was revealed.

As Scotland‘s social media channels counted down to the announcement they shared a teaser video complete with retro Teletext style TV and an impromptu visit from a chicken.
It sparked all sorts of wild theories including Tony Watt and Harvey Barnes being called up.
But it proved to be just one of the many quirky nuggets and Easter eggs hidden among the announcement video.
It gave nods to a variety of Scotland stars of stage, screen and stadium – and some hilarious tropes.
With vibes of The Hangover movie, the announcement video opens with a cameo from ex-Hearts and Rangers keeper Antti Niemi – a former international for warm-up opponents Finland.
He wakes up on the floor with a chicken – rather than a Hollywood tiger – wandering across the screen.
In a flashback he’s joined by a crazy cast of Scots in a house party purporting to celebrate the squad announcement – which is revealed via Teletext.
With hints of who is to come there’s a lightbox message ‘Welcome to The Gunn Sho’ – with a nod to No1 keeper Angus – leading into a face-off arm wrestle between Luke Stoltman and his brother – the World’s Strongest Man, Tom.
Music aficienado Pat Nevin – a former Scotland international and goalscorer at our first Euro appearance in 1992 is also spotted DJ-ing for the revellers.
And dancing along are various celebs and TV stars including Frankie Boyle, funnyman Grado and the bizarre chicken, Sky Sports host Eilidh Barbour and panellists from A View from the Terrace.
There’s little details too like Billy Connolly in a Scotland shirt on the wall, and Hampden chant ‘No Scotland No Party‘ written in fridge magnets spotted amongst the flashing images.
Scotland’s record women‘s goalscorer Julie Fleeting is also involved, as is Niemi with a cheeky nod to a famous radio phone-in mix-up.
He became a cult hero after being touted for a Scotland call by a confused punter – despite holding a Finland passport.

When corrected by host Euan Cameron that he was ‘Finnish’ – the caller misheard and took umbrage, claiming: “He’s no finished, he’s only 29.”
And that hilarious misunderstanding was rekindled as Niemi’s wake-up call saw him answer the door to latecomers ‘here for the party’ – to which he replies: “It’s Finnish”.
