Wilson made just 11 starts for Callum Davidson‘s side, with his last in Tuesday night’s 5-1 defeat to Hibs in the Premier Sports Cup.

Talks with club chiefs led to an agreement to terminate his contract and now the stopper is free to pursue his career elsewhere.

Wilson arrived at Queen‘s Park following a successful six-year spell with MLS side Colorado Rapids.

He enjoyed a meteoric rise at Rangers following a debut at just 16 and earned a sensational move to Liverpool in 2010.

Wilson left the Anfield giants in 2013 for a return to Scottish football with Hearts whom he would captain to Championship title glory.

He returned to Rangers in 2015 before exiting three years later under a cloud after claiming he’d had a contract proposal abruptly withdrawn when he was looking to stay at Ibrox.

Meanwhile Wilson’s old club have been told they can use Hampden for “as long as necessary” next season, according to a report.

The Rangers board have been scrambling in recent weeks to find temporary accommodation for the start of the campaign after improvement work on the Copland Road Stand hit a major snag due after a shipping delay.

Hampden and Murrayfield were discussed as potential options on a short-term basis, but they finally landed on the national stadium following long talks with the SFA and SPFL.

And the SPFL confirmed yesterday that Philippe Clement‘s side were given the seal of approval.

A statement revealed that they had reached an agreement over the use of the venue up until September 5 when Scotland face Poland in the Uefa Nations League.

Queen’s Park signed a contract with the SFA earlier this year which allows them to return to Hampden after that international clash.

The agreement sees a one-in-one out plan in place with the Spiders replacing the Gers in the national stadium at the start of September.

But the Daily Record claim that the ambitious Scottish Championship outfit have ditched their initial deal with the governing body as a gesture of goodwill to help Rangers in their hour of need.

A source also claimed that Queen’s Park turned down an offer to ground share with the Govan side amid fears it could damage the playing surface.

Willie Haughey and the Spiders’ board are now reportedly discussing any potential contingency plans in the event they may need to use Lesser Hampden until the start of next year if necessary.
