But thankfully he has recovered sufficiently to give himself the chance of a contract at Scottish Championship club.

The incident occurred when he was an Oostende player – but he’s back in Scottish football training at Livingston alongside former St Johnstone star Ryan McGowan.

He was said to have been driving his Mercedes car to a friendly match before he crashed into a tree on his way to the game.

No other vehicles were involved in the horror crash.

But he was in a critical condition and had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.

The London born striker went under the knife and his operation was successful.

He was always adamant that he would be able to make a full recovery: “I appreciate everyone’s concern for me after the accident.

“I am happy that I was able to leave the hospital and am gradually on the road to recovery.

“I hope to return soon.”

Mebude joined Rangers as a youngster in 2011 – making his first team breakthrough under Steven Gerrard and was handed his debut at the age of 17 against Kilmarnock in a Scottish Premiership clash in May 2019.

“Our thoughts are with Dapo and his family.”

Mebude’s younger brother Dire is on-loan at Bristol City from Belgian side Westerlo.

He has represented Scotland at under-21 level.
