STUART ARMSTRONG has finally found his next club.

The Scotland international and former Celtic star has been without a team since being released by Southampton in June.

But the Scotland Euros star, 32, is now back in the game after sealing a shock move overseas to the MLS.

And one fan has joked that the midfielder has swapped his old green and white of the Hoops for blue and white at his new club.

We told you this week how Armstrong was closing in on a shock move to Vancouver Whitecaps to link up with former Dundee United team-mate Ryan Gauld.

And the news is now official as the MLS Western Conference side have confirmed Armstrong as one of their designated players for this season.

He has agreed a two-year deal with the Canadian-based club.

The 32-year-old has been weighing up his options in the past few weeks while training with Premier League side Brentford to step up his fitness for his eventual return to football.

But the Scotland Hall of Famer with over 50 caps has opted for a new challenge and could end up finishing his career in the US.

Following his exit from St. Mary’s, Armstrong was not included in Steve Clarke‘s squad for this week’s Nations League double header with Poland and Portugal.

But his new – and old – team-mate Gauld could be in line for his first cap after years of speculation over his chances of earning a call up from the ex-Kilmarnock boss.

Now 28, Gauld has finally been included in Clarke’s squad and fans will be excited to see him in action for the national team this week.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke quizzed on whether he considered quitting after Euro 2024 disappointment

Opening up on the moment the news of his call up was made official, the former Dundee United starlet said: “The squad was announced at around midday in Scotland and I knew when it was being announced, so I woke up in the middle of the night and said, ‘okay, call-up’ – and I went back to bed.

“It’s a nice feeling to be recognised again and get a chance to train with everyone and be around it.

“It’s going to be a good week and I’m looking forward to it.”
