Ex-Celtic star handed shock last-minute call-up to Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad
SCOTLAND boss Steve Clarke has added ANOTHER new player to his prospective Euro playing pool.
After injuries to Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak the national team boss drafted in a new Tartan Army hero in waiting – Tommy Conway.
But there’s another new face hooking up with the squad as late cover – and he’s in RED HOT form.
Lewis Morgan has hit nine goals in 14 starts for New York Red Bulls and Clarke has opted to play him as a late wildcard just ONE day before the team’s last warm-up match against Finland.
That final friendly and Hampden farewell on Friday comes hours before the squad has to be settled.
And ex-St Mirren and Celtic star Morgan has a late chance to impress and earn a place on the plane.

He has just TWO international caps to his name – both picked up as a substitute against Peru and Mexico under Alex McLeish in 2018.
Bristol City striker Tommy Conway was promoted from Scot Gemmill‘s under-21 squad after scoring on Monday against Turkey.
And while Gemmill says the uncapped youngster’s stats “stack up” for international stardom, Morgan’s Major League Soccer numbers eclipse even them.
The 27-year-old from Paisley was a youth player in Rangers‘ ranks before famously being released and later joined rivals Celtic after an impressive spell at his hometown team St Mirren.
Morgan has also played at Sunderland and David Beckham‘s Inter Miami before he moved and became a big deal in the Big Apple.
He switched between States two and a half years ago and boasts a goal return just shy of one strike in every two games with the Red Bulls.
Clarke will be hoping some of that form can be replicated and rub off on his strikeforce ahead of the June 14 opener against Germany following a lacklustre warm-up win over Gibraltar.
The national team boss will put his players through their paces at Hampden in an open training session today (Thursday) before the boss faces the media – and questions on his latest selection – at lunchtime.
Since the draw was made pitting Scotland against the hosts, Hungary and Switzerland Clarke has seen injury scares for captain Andy Robertson, Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney in the second half of the season.
But though they’ve recovered to report for duty the same can’t be said of the crocked Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson and Lewis Ferguson who were all ruled out before the 28-man squad was named.
Since then Lyndon Dykes has been stretchered out of training and ruled out of the German party, followed by Liverpool wonderkid Ben Doak earlier this week.
