Entrepreneurial Scotland hails record year with 195 students placed in global internships

The 2024 Saltire Scholars cohort

Entrepreneurial Scotland, an independent charity focused on developing entrepreneurial leaders who can help deliver growth and quality jobs throughout Scotland, has announced a record year as it continues to support the next generation of Scottish business leaders via its Saltire Scholars Programme.

Scotland’s national entrepreneurial development foundation has now placed 195 students into internships (a notable increase from 137 in 2023) across the world including the UK, US, Canada, Czech Republic and Australia.

The organisation has formed long-term partnerships with growing Scottish businesses to help boost its Saltire Scholars Programme. One of which, Glasgow-headquartered NeuroClin, had three Saltire Scholars join the independent neurological research business earlier this year and has already committed to a partnership with Entrepreneurial Scotland to receive a similar intake next year.

NeuroClin’s CEO Fiona Wood said: “We’re excited to announce that in partnership with Entrepreneurial Scotland we will continue to welcome talented interns to NeuroClin that are integral to our mission of advancing medical research and improving patient outcomes.

We are proud to support the growth of Scotland’s emerging talent and look forward to the positive impact these interns will bring to our team.”

Entrepreneurial Scotland’s CEO, Sean McGrath, explained why building partnerships with the Scottish business community has been key to the programme’s success.

He said: “Scotland has a rich heritage in producing exceptional talent but it’s crucial our next generation of business leaders gain hands-on experience and make meaningful contributions to the real-world environment.

“By partnering with pioneering organisations such as NeuroClin, we are not only offering ambitious entrepreneurially minded young people a chance to shine, but we are also helping exciting growing businesses to access the talent they need. NeuroClin is a fantastic example of the types of high growth businesses that exist in Scotland and we can help them rapidly scale by providing them with the sort of people who will relish such a challenge.”
