Prior to the Pakistan series, a majority of the England players including Buttler and Phil Salt were preoccupied with Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments. While Buttler, who represented Rajasthan Royals (RR), finished with 359 runs from 11 matches, Salt had an even better season with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), amassing 435 runs from 12 matches at a strike-rate of 182.01.

Will Jacks is another power-hitter who impressed for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scoring an unbeaten century against Gujarat Titans (GT). In the recent T20I series against Pakistan, Jacks scored 37 and 20. Harry Brook, who was on an extended break from cricket after his grandmother passed away earlier this year, will add balance and flexibility to the batting.

Also returning is pacer Jofra Archer, who has had a career prone with injuries so far. Archer had sustained a recurring back injury that had kept him out for a year, and returned only in mid-May for Sussex 2nd XI against Kent 2nd XI in an English domestic match. He played both T20Is against Pakistan and picked three wickets.

Scotland will be led by Richie Berrington and have retained a majority of the team that took part in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. The squad, however, does not have Calum MacLeod, who had retired after the 2022 edition.

Squads:

England: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood

Scotland: Richie Berrington (c), Matthew Cross, Brad Currie, Chris Greaves, Oli Hairs, Jack Jarvis, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt and Brad Wheal.
