New Delhi: England qualified for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 after Australia defeated Scotland by 5 wickets at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on June 16.

The defending champions were on the brink of getting knocked out of the tournament after the first two matches but Jos Buttler and Co. won the next two matches convincingly and qualified for the next round. Their qualification depended on the result of Australia vs Scotland match.

England’s first match against Scotland was washed out due to the rain and they lost their second match against Australia by 36 runs. The defending champions chased down the 47-run target against Oman in 4 overs and surpassed Scotland’s net run rate.

Jos Buttler-led side won their last match against Namibia by 41 runs. Both Scotland and England are tied on 5 points but due to England’s better net run rate, they advanced to the next round of the tournament.

Seven teams have already qualified for the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup with one spot still up for grabs in Group D. Bangladesh and Netherlands are in contention to book their place in the Super 8. If the Netherlands beats Sri Lanka by a big margin, they will qualify, and if Bangladesh beats Nepal, they will make it to the next round. Both teams will play their last group-stage matches on June 17.
