DOZENS of staff reportedly face being axed as an insurance firm cuts jobs in Scotland.

It’s thought that the major company could cut between five and seven per cent of its workforce.

Aviva – which deals with savings, investments, and pensions – is one of the largest employers in Perth, according to The Courier.

The potential job losses at the site could equate to 77 positions at the office in Pitheavlis, Perth.

It’s understood that the plans to reduce the workforce follow an agreement to acquire rival insurer Direct Line for £3.7 billion.

It said up to 2,300 job cuts could be made as the companies aim for at least £125m a year in cost savings.

A spokesman said: “The cost synergies from the acquisition are expected to be achieved through a reduction in overlapping roles across the combined insurance operations.

“As well as rationalisation of supporting teams and the reduction of overlapping roles in a number of shared services, head office and senior management functions.”

The company also has an office at Eurocentral, near Glasgow.

The Scottish Sun asked Aviva for comment.

Elsewhere all jobs at a Scots manufacturing firm have been axed following its closure.

But staff were informed last year that the firm would be ceasing production with more than 50 jobs lost.

The facility closed on December 31.

The firm was bought over by Hunter Douglas, an industry giant, in 2015.

The Rotterdam-based business mogul purchased Stevens after it had a turnover of £18million.
