Cricket Scotland ‘rewriting history’ on racism claim, says Blain

One of Scotland’s leading cricketers has accused the organisation responsible for the sport of “rewriting history” after it withdrew an assurance that charges of racism made against him were unfounded.

John Blain, who played for Scotland 118 times, said that a statement from Cricket Scotland denying that he had been cleared was “a desperate attempt to re-invent history and to row back from an unequivocal exoneration”.

Last weekend Blain told The Sunday Times that he had received a letter from Cricket Scotland’s former chief executive, Peter Fitzboydon, saying that accusations made against him by two Scottish players of Pakistani heritage had “not been founded”. The letter concluded that “there is not any case to answer, and so this matter is now considered closed”.

Blain said he had also received a call from Trudy Lindblade, CEO of Cricket Scotland, saying he had no case to answer
