Construction milestones hit on Islay and Kintyre ports

Port Askaig has been re-opened following fendering upgrades

1. Construction milestones have been reached on the upgrade of two ferry terminals, meaning they are on course to be ready to welcome new vessels from Turkey later this year.

Work on the south berth at Kennacraig in Kintyre has been completed while Port Askaig on Islay has been reopened following fendering upgrades.

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) hired George Leslie, Napier Bros Engineers, Malin Group and Mott MacDonald for the contracts.

The work was required to ensure both sites could accommodate the new vessels MV Isle of Islay and MV Loch Indaal, which are being worked on at the Cemre shipyard in Turkey.
