Celtic, Rangers and Scotland heroes’ favourite football boots and what they cost

FOOTBALL boots don’t come cheap these days.

Unless, you’ve got a big money boot deal like the top Scottish or Scottish-based footballers have, of course.

James Tavernier swears by Adidas Predators but many Celtic heroes prefer Nike

Whether it’s garish colours or more modest black affairs, aspiring young kids throughout the land will be pestering their mums and dads very soon to put football boots modelled by our game’s biggest stars on their Christmas lists.

There’s nothing like impressing their pals down the park or at football training.

So SunSport thought it was worth having a one-stop shop for which Celtic, Rangers and Scotland heroes wear which boots.

And just for good measure we thought it might be wise giving a guideline for how much they cost – and where you might buy them.

Callum McGregor (Celtic)

The Hoops skipper has been amongst the goals again this season – with his left foot a particularly potent weapon.

And as shown below, the boots he does the damage with are Nike Tiempo Legend X Elite Pro Player Edition – usually in Lemonade colour.

They normally retail at around £230-£240 – with sale prices potentially around £80 cheaper.

Junior and lower spec versions of the boots start at £30.

Arne Engels (Celtic)

The Hoops go with Adidas for their kits – but McGregor’s new midfield clubmate Arne Engels is another man who likes Nike boots.

The Belgian international has hit the ground running as a Hoops player – showing huge prowess from set pieces in particular.

And those free kick and corner kick deliveries are produced with a Nike Mercurial Vapour 16 Elite.

The soft ground version used most frequently on grass retails at £250 on the Nike site.

A kids version of the elite boot is available at £100, with varying different specifications available at cheaper prices.

Kyogo Furuhashi (Celtic)

There’s plenty of light blue on these boots, including the tick, but Engels isn’t the only Hoops player who likes wearing them.

Strike duo Kyogo and Adam Idah have both been sporting the design.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic)

Defensive colossus Carter-Vickers has been laid low this season with a foot injury.

They can be no laughing matter – with pro players putting a premium on finding and wearing the boot that gives most comfort.

And in the big American’s case, he goes with Adidas boots, and in particular the Copa Pure 2 Elite.

Currently retailing at £200 on the Adidas site, Carter-Vickers tends to go with the white boots with blue and red trim.

A version of the boot for 4-8 year-olds is available for £40.

James Tavernier (Rangers)

Rangers skipper Tav is an Adidas predator man, utilising the boots which David Beckham made famous with a similar technique on his free-kicks.

His preference is for Adidas Predator Elite Tongue – ie the fold-over tongue version, which the German brand recently brought back.

Again, the usually retail at around the £240 mark.

While he has been known to wear various different colours, these fetching pink and blue designs were worn against St Johnstone this season.

Nedim Bajrami (Rangers)

Rangers’ Albanian new boy has looked the part so far – and not least because of his nifty Nike Phantom GX Elite football boots.

The red and black colours match with the Rangers home kit as well as the colours of his beloved Albania.

Again, their base price before any reductions is around the £240 mark.

An ‘Academy’ version is available at £40 and a ‘Pro’ version at £75.

Cyriel Dessers (Rangers)

It may have been said a few times that the Nigerian hasn’t quite had his shooting boots on, but he’s a hugely popular figure and his goalscoring rate isn’t half bad.

And big Cyriel is brave enough to break away from the Adidas/Nike duopoly to play in Puma boots.

In particular, he likes to wear Puma Future 7 Ultimate boots.

Starting at £240, the colour and design he wears them in, cyan with hints of turqoise, is called Bluemazing.

A kids version of the boot is available from £60.

John McGinn (Aston Villa)

Scotland man McGinn has been laid low with a hamstring problem – missing out on a famous Champions League win over Bayern Munich and big matches for his country.

His boots of choice are Nike Phantom 2 Elite in a light blue colour which matches Villa’s kit pretty well.

Retailing at £240 on the Nike site, they come with the tagline: “In the middle of the storm, with chaos swirling all around you, you’ve calmly found the final third of the pitch, thanks to your uncanny mix of on-ball guile and grace.”

Various different specs of the design are available – with an academy version available at £79.99 and a kids’ ‘Club’ version retailing at £45.

Andy Robertson (Liverpool)

Robertson and McGinn are inseparable when they play for Scotland – and they’re inseparable too when it comes to the football boots they like to wear.

Scott McTominay (Napoli)

McTominay has made a great start to life in Serie A – and while Armani provide the kits for Napoli McTominay is another Adidas man when it comes to his boots.

So far we’ve had boots from the Predator and Copa range but the former Man Utd man swears by the Adidas F50 range.

In particular, he was spotted wearing a pair of Adidas F50 Elite in White with Solar Red and Lucid Blue as he kick started his career in Italy.

They currently retail at £220 on the Adidas site.

A kids’ version of the boot is available from £55 although specs vary.

Billy Gilmour (Napoli)

Last but not least on our list of Scottish footballing folk heroes is McTominay’s new Napoli team-mate Billy Gilmour.

The pint-sized midfielder has previously modelled for Burberry and has the kind of first touch that makes you think he could wear a pair of brown brogues and still kill it stone dead.

But like Rangers captain James Tavernier, he is another man who swears by Adidas Predators.

As he made his way in the Italian game under his old boss Antonio Conte at Napoli, he was spotted recently wearing the fold-over tongue version of the classic boot in Platinum Metallic, Aurora Black and Carbon.
