Celtic ace pulls on another team’s strip as he takes in game with rival on break

CELTIC have been in action this international break – making hard work of Sligo Rovers in a friendly last week.

But though there’s been no let-up in games there still has been some time off for Brendan Rodgers‘ stars.

Some 11 players were called up for their countries – and the others were pitched in for the Showgrounds exhibition match in the hometown of Celtic founder Brother Walfrid.

But beyond that there has been some rest and recuperation on the cards – but more football too for one Celtic star.

He was spotted taking a break from playing, but couldn’t stay away from the game for too long.

Infact he was seen sporting ANOTHER CLUB’S SHIRT as he took in a match up the road from his last appearance – with an equally well-known pal alongside him.

But there was a Celtic link to the visit to Derry City‘s draw with Bohemians too.

Luke McCowan was pictured happily mixing with fans – including some Hoops supporters – at The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

He was still recognised tucked away under under a New York Yankees baseball cap and hood – and neither could he disguise what was UNDER his hoodie.

His untucked top was the same candy-stripe design as the home side who boast his old team-mate Paul McMullan in the ranks.

The winger hit the post in the costly draw for the League of Ireland side, watched by TWO of his old pals from the city of Discovery.

Not only was McMullan’s old team-mate from his Dundee days in the stands, so too was Scotland international Lawrence Shankland.

Both played with the winger in the SPFL – McCowan at Dens Park and Shankland across the road at United.

And the Hoops and Hearts stars also shared a dressing room at Ayr.

Shankland would usually be in Croatia on international duty with Steve Clarke‘s squad but has been struggling with a minor hamstring injury this season and withdrew from the call-up – replaced by ex-Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet, now on loan at Aberdeen.

McMullan moved to the League of Ireland a year ago but his Celtic connection runs deep.

The little winger a promising youth player in the Hoops ranks before heading out to Stenhousemuir, Dunfermline, St Mirren, Morton and both Dundee clubs.

Derry now meet Celtic’s last opponents Sligo on Monday with their own title hopes hanging three points off the pace, chasing Shelbourne – managed by ex-Celtic coach Damien Duff.
